Pandoras Box V1.3.0 Released

I was going to hold off on this release to add a few extra features but after so many emails for the features I had complete I said I would delpoy it while I finish the other items.

This version contains:

  • Popup notifications on song/artist change
  • Setting to enable/disable notifications
  • Copy-To-Clipboard functionality
  • New menu system for right-click
  • Fixes flicker issue on dual-monitor setups
  • Option to show/hide in taskbar.
  • If shown in taskbar, it now shows in the ALT+TAB list

If you are upgrading to a the latest version, I would recommend un-installing the last version completely before installing this version. If your lazy and you dont un-install you probably wont have any issues :-)

I'll be working on the new features shortly. Your going to like them!!

Thanks to all who donated to the PayPal beer fund. Very much appreciated! I you havent done so yet and you appreciate the application there is no time like the present ;-)

Dan,

I asked Tim Westergren (at a recent Meetup) if there was anything Pandora.com would be doing about people who were developing wrappers that cut out their advertising revenue. His response was basically they were flattered that people were creating projects based using Pandora, but if they perceived usage really cutting into their overall they would have to look into it more closely. It seemed to me that he didn't think it was too big a deal right now because the vast majority of Pandora users access their music directly from www.pandora.com.

On another note, being a big Pandora fan myself, I created the pandorastations.crispynews.com site and the pandoralicious.googlepages.com mashup thing and I'm currently working on the www.zimbio.com/portal/Pandora Internet Radio page as well.

The team at http://pandorafm.real-ity.com is also working on integrating feeds from the CrispyNews page into their mashup in a new version.

What I'm really wondering is if you might consider adding some kind of station sharing functionality to your application (I think the easiest/best way may be to add a one-click option to allow people to post the currently playing station to their del.icio.us account with the pandorastations tag.

Anyway thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

Could you email me directly to discuss this? I would love to get behind and help with this. I have a few ideas of my own I would like to share.

Dan.

Dan,

You've done great work on this software. It's now my main source of music. However, I have one feature request.

Can you add a feature that will logging all the tracks I mark as "I like it!". After a heavy session using Pandora's Box, I could then go to a pre-specified directory and pickup a .txt file that contains a list of all the tracks that I liked in that session.

I could then go and investigate those artists further, build stations around them and know what tracks to buy online.

It would be so damn useful!

Wes
Hi Mike (And all)

I have been delayed in releasing the latest version as I add some more features and iron out some issues.

I'll keep you posted :-)

Hi Dan. Great work. A suggestion regarding the lyrics might be if the lyrics are not found and if the artist name starts with 'The' then also do a search for the song with 'The ' removed from the front of the artist. E.g. 'The Monkees' is simply stored as 'Monkees' at lyricwiki.org

pandora just updated the client and broke your app, they added "Quick Mix" which plays music from your stations, you can select which ones you want, not just all of them. btw, its Oct 13, 1:46AM EST. thats the time i reopened pandoras box to fix the song title bug
btw, after a few songs, pandoras box doesnt pick up the song changes anymore, forcing a restart of pandoras star

Hi Dan,
I'm having some problems running Pandora. After a successful install when I'm trying to run it I get : Runtime error : -2147417848 (80010108) Automation error The object invoked disconected from its clients.
I'm on P4, 3 Ghz, 512 Ram, Windows XP SP2 with all the updates. I'm the administrator on the local machine.
On my laptop it's working fine.
You're doiung a great job.
Thanx,
Ovidiu

In the comments you mentioned of making this project open source. Are you still considering doing that? As a C# Software Developer I would love to get my hands on it and see if i couldn't work on it a little.
I'm getting the same error as Ovidiu:

Run-time error '-2147417848 (80010108)':

Automation error
The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.

I had just installed Pandora's Box on my laptop and run it without problems once. After restarting my laptop, it now gives me this error message every time.
