Another bloody busker shows up!

Under pressure to get the latest project out the door and working on a fairly brain-tasking section so I need all my concentration and this bloody fool turns up outside my window.

Everyday a new busker shows up outside my window and screeches through renditions of popular tunes. They are getting more inventive in their ways to annoy me. This fucker decided to use a uni-cycle and play spanish style music while croaning like something in pain....

I want to through my coffee at him....

Another bubble floating our way ready to be burst?

Am I the only one that sees another major tech bubble burst in the not too near future?

The lead up patterns are the same. Make a site, wow the investors get some money.

The only difference with this one is people mashing together a site to perform a job nobody really needs or wants, tacking Web 2.0 to it (or calling it an obscure name) and hoping it will be snapped up by one of the big 3 - Google, Microsoft or Yahoo.

I have seen many 2.0 Apps boasting rounded corners, funky colors and AJAX thrown in for the hell of it and to be honest.....would I really use them? NO!!!

The only two I use is Flickr and Delicious. Why? Because they actually add some value to my life and genuinly allows me to do stuff I couldnt normally do. Plus, they were the first and continue to innovate.

Do we really need sub-par alternatives to the above? Do we really need 30 different customisable homepages or 40 different online calendars?

Quick Tip : Mozilla disables window.status by default

I was doing some testing on an app that needed to display mouse events so instead of doing what I normally do I said its only quick debug so I'll set the window.status - No joy.....

Mozilla by default now disables access to WINDOW.STATUS

You have to enable it by going to : TOOLS->OPTIONS->CONTENT-> ADVANCED and enable "Change  window status text"

Just a quick one incase you ever need to turn it on. This is a good thing to stop annoying sites but bad in general. There should be a wizard when installing Mozilla where you can specify whats turned off and not have to find things in the future.

This is one of my main gripes with Mozilla and Thunderbird. There doesnt seem to be any consistancy in where OPTIONS, SETTINGS or PREFERENCES are stored and their popup windows, dialogs, menus and tabs all hide settings in the most unpredictable places.

This is one of the reasons Windows is the de facto desktop operating system for normal users because they standardised the user interface. Even though Firefox is a great browser and Thunderbird is a great email application, you can see they were primerily developed on platforms other than Windows where there is no standard as far as settings, menu items etc should be placed.
